Tea Tree Oil, Jojoba Oil and Menthol fight Toe Nail and Foot Fungus

Fight Fungus by using Tea Tree Oil, Jojoba Oil and Menthol

Herbal products have been effective in treating toenail and foot fungus for centuries.  Below is a list of prominent herbal ingredients that are used in PediMD products that are known for their anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and healing properties .

Tea Tree Oil

Tea Tree Oil Plant

Tea Tree Oil has beneficial medical properties when applied topically; including anti-septic, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-viral.  It is an effective treatment for multiple fungal diseases including ringworm, athlete’s foot and toenail fungus and thrush.

Tea Tree Oil is an ingredient in PediMD Step 1 Nail Lacquer.  We have combined the tea tree oil molecule with jojoba oil, which has a smaller particle size in order to allow the tea tree to penetrate the nail and treat the nail root where fungus thrives.

Jojoba Oil

Jojoba Oil serves as an excellent moisturizing agent with exceptional lubricity.  The oil leaves a rich velvety non-oily feel on the skin while retaining water to enhance the flexibility and suppleness of the skin and promote the growth of new skin cells.

Jojoba  Oil is used in our nail treatment system primarily to rejuvenate infected nail and skin cells and promote the growth of new, healthy cells. This oil speeds the growth of an infected nail while it heals, soothes and moisturizes the surrounding skin leaving, it soft and smooth.

Menthol - Vics Vapo Rub

Menthol has anti-bacterial and anti-septic and anti-inflammatory properties. Menthol is a strong alcohol which not only cleans the nail, but also treats the fungus as well.

Many doctors prescribe menthol cream as a cure for nail fungus.  However, menthol cannot penetrate the nail and reach the source of the fungus. PediMD Nail Treatment System is designed to unroof the top layer of the nail through the use of Urea and allow the Menthol to penetrate through the nail and into the root where fungus grows and multiplies.

PediMD Anti-Fungal Nail Treatment and PediMD Anti-Fungal Moisturizing Foot Cream incorporate Tea Tree Oil, Jojoba Oil and Menthol as well as multiple other Oils and Extracts that Fight Fungus

Onychomycosis: Causes, Symptoms, and Common Treatments of Nail Fungus

What is Onychomycosis?

Onychomycosis is a latin term for nail fungus.  It is a common term used by dermatologists and podiatrists to describe nail fungus infections seen in a clinical setting.  Onychomycosis is caused by many underlying causes.  Some of these are listed below.

Causes of Onychomycosis:

Onychomycosis severe nail fungus

  • Sweating
  • Poor hygiene
  • Skin fungus
  • Barefoot in common wet areas (pool, spa, showers)
  • Wearing the same socks multiple days
  • Family History of Fungal Infections

5 Symptoms of Onychomycosis:

Onychomycosis Nail Fungus mild

  1. Yellow brittle changes to the nails
  2. Thickness of the nails
  3. Lifted nail from the nail bed
  4. Possible skin redness
  5. Possible itching and rash of the skin

The underlying cause of onychomycosis or nail fungus is an infection of the nail matrix or nail root.  This causes the nail to grow out with the fungus incorporated in the nail as it grows.  In order to treat the fungus in the nail, the matrix needs to be cleared of the fungus.  Once the matrix is cleared up, the nail begins to grow out clear from the root towards the end of the toe. It is also important to treat the skin for skin fungus, also known as tinea pedis.  This will prevent cross infection of the nail to skin and visa versa.

Common Treatments for Onychomycosis Include:

Fungus nail pill

Fungus nail laser

Fungus nail lacquer

Combination Therapy

Our suggestion is to try and prevent nail fungus with the PediMD Anti-fungal Skin and Nail Treatment System.  If you have fungus of the nail that is mild, try using the PEDIMD nail lacquer to treat the nail and also prevent further infection.

If you have severe fungus, you may want to consider using a combination therapy of nail laser and the PediMD anti-fungal treatment system in order to treat the fungus more aggressively and also prevent the fungus from returning.

Remember it is essential to continue to treat the fungus and protect the nail after any form of treatment to prevent re-infection.
